Quantcast: Mastering the Sniper Rifle Approach to AdTech
In a fragmented AdTech ecosystem, volume alone is a vanity metric. At Quantcast, the mandate was to move away from broad shotgun tactics and toward a tightly coordinated, math-driven growth engine where every dollar was aligned to a clearly modeled impact on pipeline.
Generated in qualified pipeline from a $4M annual budget by focusing spend on accounts and audiences with modeled revenue impact.
Improvement in conversion rates driven by advanced predictive modeling and better prioritization of who saw what, and when.
Increase in customer acquisition volume by refining audience targeting and leveraging more precise behavioral signals.
Strategy over shotgun advertising
With a $4M annual budget and enterprise ABM programs across global accounts, the job was not simply to buy reach. It was to direct capital into the places where it would actually convert into high-quality pipeline.
The work required confronting comfortable habits in AdTech: broad targeting, generic campaigns, and over-indexing on impression volume instead of modeled impact. Precision became the standard, not the exception.
Operating Principle
Every major initiative started with a simple question: “What revenue reality are we trying to create?” The answer determined the account lists, the data model, and the orchestrated actions across channels.

Predictive Impact Prioritization
Used predictive models to determine which accounts, segments, and initiatives would most efficiently convert budget into qualified pipeline.
Buying Committee Mapping
For target accounts like Nike, mapped the CMO, VP of Data, IT leadership, and other key stakeholders instead of optimizing for a single generic persona.
Omnichannel Coordination
Orchestrated high-end direct mail, corporate IP-targeted ads, and hyper-personalized email into one synchronized sequence instead of disconnected channel plays.
The “Luxury Shoe Buyer” unicorn problem
A client delivered an “impossible brief”: target only in-market luxury shoe buyers on Safari, who had visited their site in the last seven days, while requiring a 5x ROAS. In practice, those constraints strangled the algorithm’s ability to learn.
I built a clear mathematical model to show how each constraint reduced reach, data volume, and learning capacity. The analysis made it undeniable that the requested audience was too small for the AI to stabilize and optimize performance.
We implemented a three-tiered solution that preserved precision where it mattered while feeding the algorithm enough signal to survive and improve.
The exact, ultra-narrow criteria—kept intact for maximum efficiency, but with the understanding that volume would be limited.
High-propensity lookalikes modeled to behave like the ideal luxury shoe buyer, giving the system enough data to stabilize and learn.
Broader intent signals to keep the top of the funnel replenished and prevent the model from starving over time.
Data integrity as the foundation of scale
By stitching directly measured, privacy-safe behavioral signals into accurate user journeys, Quantcast built a cookieless-robust system that could scale without collapsing under noise.
The result was a revenue engine where budget allocation, targeting decisions, and ABM programs were grounded in reality, not wishful thinking about what the data could do.
Leadership Lens
The role proved that strategic growth in AdTech means educating stakeholders about the trade-offs between precision, scale, and learning, then architecting campaigns that respect all three.

At Quantcast, the work showed that data integrity and realistic modeling are prerequisites for scale. When privacy-safe behavioral signals are stitched into coherent journeys, the result is not just better targeting. It is a higher-fidelity system for turning complexity into predictable growth.
