FICO: Engineering the Programmable Nervous System for Global FinTech
In enterprise financial software, trust outranks novelty. At FICO, the mandate was to build a regulator-grade marketing engine where every campaign, signal, and workflow protected decision quality, respected executive attention, and reinforced legal defensibility across high-stakes buyer journeys.
Year-over-year increase in lead acquisition, achieved by aligning education, engagement scoring, and sales-readiness workflows around executive intent rather than volume alone.
Maintained regulator-grade standards so downstream models, targeting logic, and campaign signals remained legally defensible and resistant to algorithmic bias.
Received a FICO Leadership Award for ingenuity and creative problem-solving in enterprise marketing infrastructure and strategic execution.
Trust over automation in a multi-million-dollar buying cycle
FICO operated in an environment defined by 12–18 month sales cycles, enterprise-level scrutiny, and stakeholders who could not afford wasted outreach. Standard spray-and-pray demand generation would have created noise, eroded credibility, and weakened the sales conversation before it began.
The job was to lead strategic marketing for enterprise SaaS solutions with a higher bar: every touchpoint had to improve decision quality, preserve compliance posture, and help senior financial leaders arrive at a buying conversation fully informed.
Operating Belief
The most effective enterprise marketing does not chase attention at any cost. It earns trust by reducing noise, respecting context, and demonstrating that the brand understands legal, operational, and reputational downside better than anyone else in the room.
Building the programmable nervous system
I rebuilt the marketing infrastructure by treating Eloqua as a programmable nervous system for behavioral data, sales intelligence, and timing. Rather than passing raw engagement into sales, the model translated actions into calibrated readiness signals.
This made the system more than a campaign platform. It became a decision layer that protected sellers from premature outreach and protected buyers from being contacted before enough education had occurred.
The thin file dilemma
A major lender requested a fully automated AI credit risk model for thin-file applicants, including immigrants and younger borrowers with sparse credit histories, while relying only on incomplete internal data. The business pressure favored automation. The risk profile did not.
I pushed back on full automation and framed the problem as a stability, fairness, and defensibility issue. Sparse inputs would increase model volatility, elevate discriminatory risk, and expose the institution to a form of digital redlining hidden beneath a technically elegant workflow.
Instead of automating the final decision, I implemented a human-in-the-loop model. Obvious approvals and declines could be surfaced efficiently, while ambiguous gray-area cases were routed to manual review to preserve judgment, auditability, and legal resilience.
AI handled pattern recognition and surfaced directional recommendations without becoming the sole authority in sensitive edge cases.
The lender gained a safer operating model that balanced efficiency with accountability and protected against preventable legal exposure.

At FICO, the work proved that enterprise retention and revenue do not come from louder messaging. They come from building an ecosystem that respects buyer time, interprets context accurately, and treats legal safety as a strategic advantage. By turning data into disciplined orchestration, marketing became a higher-fidelity revenue engine rather than a cost center.
